Abstract: It is important for organizations involved in
acquiring software to have strong estimating capabilities in order
to avoid some of the worst acquisition pitfalls; e.g., cost
overruns, schedule slips, inadequate performance, unsatisfactory
reliability, and outright cancellation. Additionally, in today's
challenging economic environment, providing the organization with
the best deal for their budget dollars is critical. Without strong
internal estimating skills, how will you know what is truly the best
deal? This session explains how taking a proactive role in
estimating projects and having an internal and independent
estimating function can help an organization answer many questions
and ultimately make better business decisions.
